Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is one of Gangtok's most popular tourist attractions. This oval-shaped lake is widely respected by both Buddhists and Hindus. The magnificent lake is bordered by high snow-capped peaks and fed by melting ice nearby. If you're lucky, you might be able to spot the migrating Brahminy Duck when visiting this lake. Visitors must obtain permission to visit Tsomgo Lake.
The famed Nathula Pass is 56 kilometers away from Gangtok and normally takes a full day to fully explore. This location was originally part of the famous Silk Route connecting India and Tibet.
Tashi Viewpoint on the outskirts of Gangtok provides an excellent view of the mountains. The monsoon months of July and August bring rain, which can be avoided. If you want to explore the many Gangtok tourist attractions, then plan a trip to Gangtok in the Summer season, which runs from March to June. During these months, Gangtok's weather is nice and great for sightseeing. Cooler temperatures might be found between October and February. If you want to enjoy the winter chill with fewer people, the best time to visit Gangtok is from December to February.
Gangtok does not have direct connectivity by train or air but you can reach here by air and train.
By Air - It is the fastest way to reach Gangtok so you can easily book a direct flight to the Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal. Travelers can take a taxi from Bagdogra to Gangtok. There is also a helicopter service connecting Bagdogra and Gangtok.
By Road - If you are planning a trip to Gangtok or a road trip to Gangtok, you can easily go there by cab or self-drive automobile from nearby cities such as Darjeeling, etc.
By Train - The nearest railway station for Gangtok tourists is New Jalpaiguri (about a four-hour drive). Trains to New Jalpaiguri depart from several important Indian cities. Travelers can go to Gangtok from New Jalpaiguri by taxi or bus from nearby Siliguri.
